The Advantages of an Arthroscopic Procedure

What is Arthroscopy?

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that is used to diagnose and treat joint-related problems. It is a minor surgery that is performed on an outpatient basis.

This means arthroscopy allows the doctor to see inside your joint without making any large cut or incision. It can be done on the knees, shoulder, elbow, ankle, hip, or wrist joints,

How is Arthroscopy Performed?

This procedure is performed with the help of a tool known as an arthroscope. It is a pencil size instrument with a lens and lighting system and it can send a magnified image of the joint on a video monitor. The arthroscope is inserted into the joint through a small cut. With the help of this, we can see the joint and the amount of damage in the joint. It can also be used for repairing this damage.

Arthroscopic surgery is not a long procedure, for example, arthroscopy of the knee takes about an hour. Usually, patients are discharged on the same day of the treatment. After the procedure is complete, the doctor removes the arthroscope and the incisions are closed. You will be instructed about incision care. Also, doctors will advise you regarding the activities to be avoided and tell you about the exercises to be performed for faster recovery.

What Are Its Uses?

Arthroscopy can be used to diagnose and treat various joint problems like

  • Loose bone fragments
